| Maximize your biggest spending category | by Kyle Olsen, Points & Miles Reporter | | | Have you ever considered a credit card that lets you earn the maximum points for your primary spending category?
If your spending habits often differ from the typical bonus categories on credit cards, such as travel or dining, a customizable rewards credit card might be perfect for you. These cards offer personalized rewards by adjusting the bonus categories based on your unique spending patterns.
In some cases, you will have to manually select the bonus categories from a preestablished list, while in others, the bonus categories will automatically adapt to your spending behavior.
For example, with the American Express® Business Gold Card, you earn 4 points per dollar on the two categories where your business spends the most each billing cycle from six eligible categories. While your top two categories may change, you will earn 4 points per dollar on the first $150,000 in combined purchases from these categories each calendar year (then 1 point per dollar). Only the top two categories from each billing cycle will count toward the $150,000 cap.
Similarly, the Chase Freedom Flex gives you 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in bonus categories each quarter you activate.
Another option is the Citi Custom Cash® Card, which lets you earn 5% cash back on purchases in your top eligible spending category each billing cycle, on up to the first $500 spent and 1% cash back after that.
