Marriott and MGM slated for 2024 start by Cameron Sperance, Senior Hotels Reporter It might not be a surprise, but Marriott and MGM Resorts announced their planned partnership — originally slated to begin sometime this month — won't begin until early next year. The move comes after MGM faced a major cybersecurity threat early last month and spent weeks getting operations back to normal working order — ultimately costing the company $100 million. There's a lot of anticipation over exactly what the MGM-Marriott union will look like, as this promises to be a much deeper partnership compared to the loyalty reciprocity agreement MGM ended with Hyatt at the end of the summer. MGM and Marriott will have a new sub-brand for many of the MGM properties, and there will be partnership and earning opportunities on everything from hotel stays to the BetMGM online gaming and betting platform. Deals like this take time to implement, so we're not shocked a few extra months are needed to determine things like whether it's MGM Rewards points or Marriott Bonvoy points or both that will ultimately be earned and burned at MGM-affiliated properties. Until early 2024, we'll just keep playing the guessing game as to what the deal will look like.
