| | My hope for peace | | by Brian Kelly | | | Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa, where I spent this past weekend with PeaceJam, a global high school program sponsored by TPG that brings Nobel Peace Prize winners together with youth around the world. We had our annual conference with 400 incredible youth from across Cape Town. Watching these young people come together to improve their communities through service work has been inspiring beyond what I can put into words.
I also got to spend time with our TPG Fellows — five of the brightest Peacejam students that TPG grants scholarships for a full ride to university. They all come from underprivileged, high-risk townships in Cape Town and are now graduating with bachelor's degrees and giving back to their communities in amazing ways.
Spending time with young people who have hope for a peaceful future has been a much-needed dose of humanity after recent events. To all of my Jewish readers and those with family in Israel — I stand with you. I am repulsed by the terrorist actions of Hamas, and there is no justification for the murder and kidnapping of innocent civilians. Period.
I also feel for the Palestinian people, and the humanitarian crisis that's unfolding there is heartbreaking. Too many innocent civilians in Israel and Gaza will suffer from the actions of a terrorist organization. I am hopeful for the release of those kidnapped and a de-escalation of violence across the board.
Until then, we must all come together to support this humanitarian crisis. Here at The Points Guy, we've made a $25,000 donation to World Central Kitchen, which is on the ground, supporting families already.
We live in challenging times, but I am hopeful our leaders around the world can resolve our conflicts with words and not war. If there's anything my travels around the world have taught me, it's that we have far more in common than our differences.
Safe travels,
BK
