Even if you don't like gadgets and gizmos (same, same), this is one of the best days of the year to pay less for things you use in your everyday life, in addition to holiday gifts for yourself or others.
Here are our favorite Black Friday deals we are seeing so far:
What takes Black Friday retail deals from good to great is when you stack on layers of savings that all happen at the same time. So before you buy anything on sale today, think through these three things to make the deal better.
- Do you have a credit card offer or statement credit built into one of your cards to help you save even more?
- Can you get cash back via Rakuten or a similar site for the online purchase?
- Which credit card in your wallet will give you the most rewards on the item?
For example, if you take advantage of the deal to get a $75 promo gift card spending $150 at Saks Fifth Avenue, you can also save $50 by using your twice-yearly credit available on The Platinum Card® from American Express awarded in the form of a statement credit (enrollment required) and by earning 16% cash back by starting your purchase at Rakuten. That takes a good deal to a truly great offer, assuming you find something you want at Saks (you'll find some of our faves here ).
