| | Trusted Traveler programs | | by Caroline Tanner, News Reporter | | | At TPG, I write most frequently about the Trusted Traveler programs, which U.S. Customs and Border Protection offers to preapproved travelers they've deemed low-risk.
Two of the most popular programs are TSA PreCheck and Global Entry.
TSA PreCheck allows users to skip the regular Transportation Security Administration line at U.S. airports with a dedicated PreCheck-only lane, in which users do not have to remove their shoes, laptop, liquids, belt or light jacket. Per the TSA, 99% of PreCheck passengers pass through security in 10 minutes or less.
A membership to PreCheck costs $78-$85 for five years, depending on your enrollment provider.
The second program, Global Entry, is the most popular among travelers, especially frequent international travelers, as it provides expedited clearance through automated kiosks at more than 75 airports upon arrival in the U.S. from abroad.
Global Entry costs $100 for five years but also includes a membership to TSA PreCheck and its aforementioned benefits.
While these programs are well worth their retail price tags in their own right, there are currently 39 cobranded airline, hotel and other credit cards offering users up to $100 in statement credit reimbursement for application fees (enrollment required), such as The Platinum Card® from American Express, Chase Sapphire Reserve and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express.
