| | Amex Platinum vs. Business Platinum | | by Katie Genter, Senior Writer | | | Two popular travel cards that offer a lot of perks are The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express.
These cards offer many overlapping benefits, such as airport lounge access (including Centurion Lounges) and hotel elite status with Marriott and Hilton (enrollment required). Both cards also earn valuable Amex Membership Rewards points and carry a $695 annual fee (see rates and fees below).
Most travelers won't get enough value from holding both the Amex Platinum and Business Platinum. So, let's consider the primary perks unique to each card to help you decide.
The Amex Platinum has a welcome offer of 80,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $8,000 on eligible purchases on your card within the first six months of card membership. You can also check the CardMatch tool to see if you are targeted for a 150,000-point offer on the Amex Platinum (offer subject to change at any time).
Amex Platinum cardmembers can enjoy up to $1,584 in statement credits each year for select hotel bookings through Amex Travel, eligible digital entertainment purchases, Walmart+ membership, Uber rides and Uber Eats orders within the U.S., Saks purchases, Equinox membership, Clear Plus and select purchases with a qualifying airline of choice (enrollment is required for select benefits).
Meanwhile, the Amex Business Platinum has a welcome offer of 120,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $15,000 on qualifying purchases on the card within your first three months of card membership.
Business Platinum cardmembers can benefit from up to $1,419 of statement credits each year for select purchases with Dell, Indeed, Adobe, Clear Plus, U.S. wireless telephone service providers and a qualifying airline of choice (enrollment is required for select benefits).
The choice of whether to get the Amex Platinum or Business Platinum likely comes down to which card offers the most statement credits you're likely to use.
