Why I'm excited to visit Japan by Katie Genter, Senior Writer Early tomorrow morning I'll depart Denver and connect in Chicago before hopping on a Japan Airlines flight to Tokyo. My husband and I booked one-way business-class flights for 60,000 American Airlines miles plus $5.60 per person. The flights should be awesome, but I'm even more excited about our time in Japan. I'm eager to visit the Senso-ji Buddhist temple and give Disneyland and DisneySea a try while in Tokyo. We'll also take at least one bullet train daytrip outside the city with the JR Tokyo Wide Pass to ski and visit the onsen at Gala Yuzawa resort. There's something really special about boarding a train in Tokyo and arriving at a ski resort 75 minutes later. After 11 nights in Tokyo, we'll take a Japan Airlines domestic flight — which we booked for 7,500 American Airlines miles per person — from Tokyo to Sapporo. Once in Sapporo, we'll take a ski bus out to Niseko and ski for five days with our Ikon Base Passes. Then we'll head back to Sapporo for its impressive Snow Festival. Hotel rates are high during the festival, but I snagged a four-night stay at a centrally located Comfort Hotel for just 16,000 Choice points per night. I'm looking forward to enjoying some of my favorite things in Japan over the next few weeks, from delicious ramen and sushi to peaceful parks and soothing onsens.
