| More points, more travel | by Tanner Saunders, Senior Hotels Reporter | | | Happy Tuesday, friends. Tanner Saunders, senior hotels reporter, here with you for the next few weeks.
If there's one thing I wish I had known when I started my points and miles journey using travel credit cards, it's that the first offer you see might not be the best — and with some good timing and a little research, you might be able to snag an elevated welcome offer for a card that you're interested in.
At the time, 50,000 or 60,000 points sure felt like a lot — until I later realized that friends of mine who waited got similar cards with higher bonuses, meaning their points would help them travel a lot farther.
Don't get me wrong, I still put those points to great use (even snagging my first major business-class trip on British Airways from New Delhi to London), but now, if I'm considering applying for a new card, I make sure to see which cards have higher offers so that I'm not missing out.
Right now, there are a handful of card offers that will help you travel farther and include great perks.
For example, The Platinum Card® from American Express gets you access to the Global Lounge Collection, including the snazzy new Centurion Lounge in Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), as well as elite status with Marriott and Hilton, among many other perks (enrollment is required for select benefits).
Here are a few more cards offering welcome bonuses of 100,000 points and higher:
- Capital One Venture X Business: Earn up to 300,000 bonus miles, with 150,000 miles awarded after you spend $20,000 on the card in the first three months and an additional 150,000 miles awarded when you spend a total of $100,000 in the first six months.
- Check to see if you're targeted for a 150,000-point offer on The Platinum Card from American Express or a 90,000-point offer on the American Express® Gold Card via CardMatch.
- Ink Business Preferred Credit Card: Earn 100,000 bonus points after you spend $8,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. That's $1,000 cash back or $1,250 toward travel when redeemed through Chase Travel.
- IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card: Earn 165,000 IHG points after spending $3,000 in the first three months.
- The Business Platinum Card® from American Express: Earn 120,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $15,000 on eligible purchases with your card within the first three months of card membership.
