What are the biggest mistakes people make when it comes to playing the points and miles game? How much time do you have, dear reader?! Alas, I'm here to tell you of some of the cardinal no-nos in points and miles.
For example, if you use your American Express Membership Rewards points to book a flight in the Amex Travel portal, you are only getting a value of 1 cent per point; however, if you transfer your points to a partner like Air France-KLM's Flying Blue, you can book one of its fantastic monthly Promo Rewards offers. We have regularly seen business-class flights to Europe for under 40,000 Membership Rewards points each way. This is getting almost 2 cents per point in value.
Also, don't forget to earn the welcome bonus when you open a new card! The best things in life are free, and these are free points and miles — often in the tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of points and miles — waiting to be yours and earned through everyday spending.
