| Limited-time offer: Earn a Companion Fare plus 70K miles | by Summer Hull, Director of Content | | | With the costs of seemingly everything creeping higher and higher, the threshold for a credit card's annual fee to be worth it for me year after year is increasing.
While some cards may not make the cut to stay in my wallet this year, this one easily jumps the value hurdle even though I don't fly the airline very often: the Alaska Airlines Visa® credit card.
First, it provides a Companion Fare both as part of the current welcome bonus if you spend $3,000 in the first 90 days and every single year after that when you renew, as long as you charge at least $6,000 on the card per year.
You can use the certificate to go somewhere like Hawaii and pay just $99 (plus taxes and fees that start at $23) for someone to fly round-trip with you on your paid ticket without any blackout dates. This makes it extremely useful for families and others who have to fly during peak times as a way to save big on airfare.
Pro tip: Right now, you'll also get 70,000 bonus Alaska miles as part of your welcome bonus on the Alaska Airlines Visa credit card once you spend $3,000 in the first 90 days, which is an increase over the standard offer!
Second, the Alaska Airlines miles the card provides are very hard to earn elsewhere, and they offer some pretty incredible value if you want to double up on the places you visit on a single trip by using the program's generous stopover rules.
Soon, there will be a new Alaska Airlines award chart in effect (so go brush up on what's changing if you have Alaska miles to use before that fully kicks in), but even once that happens, I expect to still enjoy using my valuable Alaska miles on its Oneworld partners.
