Google’s next-generation smartphones are here: the Pixel 11 series, along with a new Pixel Watch 5 smartwatch and the Pixel Tag, an AirTag clone but for the Android world. The company announced the new hardware at its annual Made by Google event in New York City on Wednesday. Prices are up for the smartphones, thanks to the memory crisis, and they officially go on sale August 20. There’s a whole lot of AI, from the new speech-to-text mode called Rambler to Magic Capture, which lets Gemini decide what photos to capture when you point your Pixel at a scene, allowing you to stay in the moment. The Pixel Watch 5 is also the first smartwatch to feature a “Breathing Emergency Detection,” which will call emergency services if the watch detects a drop in oxygen saturation in your blood, caused by events like accidental drug toxicity, choking, or severe pneumonia. It joins new capabilities like blood pressure and insulin resistance trends into a new umbrella category that Google calls “Health Guardian” in the Google Health app. Stay tuned for our reviews of these new gadgets next week.
