Yes, your AirPods case needs a case

PLUS: Headsets and headphones for the AirPod-averse.

WIRED Gear Logo - Life-Tested Picks

AirPods manage to remain highly sought-after on holiday wish lists. They’re a popular pick for WIRED shoppers around commerce holidays like Prime Day and Black Friday. And they’re still our favorite earbuds for iPhone users. But even on sale, they’re pretty spendy, and that slippery pebble-shaped headphone case is the perfect size and texture for dropping on the ground.

Might I suggest a dedicated Airpods case, then? We’ve got pouches. We’ve got options with carabiners. We’ve got glow-in-the-dark affairs and some that flip open with the touch of a button. Regardless of which you go with, your daily driver earbuds will have some level of protection, and they’ll also be easier to find amid the detritus of your desk. (Surely that can’t just be a “me” problem.)

Maybe earbuds aren’t your thing at all. The world of headphones is ever-expanding, leaving you room for gaming headset hybrids, noise-canceling over-ears, or envelope-pushing designs. But for those of you that just want AirPods, a case is a smart secondary buy.
